5: “GR Grand Turismo Developers Apologize for Busted Car Economy”
In a series plagued by a microtransaction scandal, the developers of GR Grand Turismo found themselves issuing an apology. The problem wasn’t singular; it was the overall stinginess of the game’s economy. Players needed copious credits to purchase new cars, but the game abruptly shut off the money flow. Unless players were willing to grind for hours, they found themselves stuck with only a handful of cars — a frustrating experience in any driving game.
Gran Turismo, a series known for generously distributing cars, took an unexpected turn during its GT7 launch. Some resourceful players resorted to exploits, injecting controls into their cars to automate gameplay and amass credits. This desperate workaround highlighted just how skewed the player economy had become. Even car resale options were absent, leaving players with no recourse.
Thankfully, the developers addressed these issues in a substantial update. Payouts became more generous, and they even awarded everyone a million credits — an appropriate gesture. However, one major complaint remained unaddressed: the always-online requirement.
